Newport in the spring is a tricky thing. More shops start opening up, restaurants start doing patio service, but you never know how the weather is going to behave. This spring was a cold one for sure, and quite frankly I was so over wearing anything I owned. Where I work they keep it so unbelievably cold that even in the summer I find myself reaching for a sweater, let alone a damp spring.
With all my spring clothes made for, ahem, warmer temperatures (when will I learn that I live in New England and spring is just muddy and wet?), I started reaching towards Matts side of the closet.
This oversized jacket is from Gap and I am in love with it. Its neutral tone matches so many fun tops, and the oversized aspect of it helps me play with proportions without overdoing it.
Walking down by the water this outfit was a perfect match. But I don’t recommend sitting on the fence like I did. Let’s just say I was less than graceful to get down.
I’ve lived in New England for 15 years now (wow that’s pretty gross) and I’m still always surprised when we get a March snow storm. Thank goodness this snow is nothing scary, but in my mind I was already planning out my beach days so this is a shock.
But exciting news! We are officially moving! Matthew and I signed our new lease last night and are so incredibly excited to start this next chapter. It’s the first place with more than one room and it’s absolutely stunning. I wasn’t sure if we even stood a chance to get it, there was a lot of competition, but the papers are signed and we are set to move…in a WEEK.
This is when the panic sets in. There are no boxes in our apartment, nothing is even looking like its moving anytime soon, and we have to set up movers. This weekend is the St. Patricks Day parade in Newport which is a huge event, but we’re going to be warm inside with tons and tons of boxes.
Last weekend we went out for a bit as a calm before the storm and it was absolutely freezing. I am pretty resilient when it comes to wind and cold weather as long as the sun is out but we barely lasted longer than these photos. I actually sprinted back to the car. Whoops.
I love the ritual of picking out outfits for work. What meetings do I have that day? Do I have to wear flats because I will be walking across the city? Is the office hot or cold? (Plot twist: It’s always cold.)
That being said on the weekends I try and dress down. While I wear a lot of the similar clothes, whoops, I try to stick to neutrals and comfy sweaters in the winter. Practical yet cute.
This Sunday we wanted to embrace the sunshine, but it was just a bit too cold for any real adventuring.
I’ve had this turtleneck forever. I actually think I took this sweater from my older sister. The jeans are banana republic, which I love. I’m 5’6 and I need to buy the ankle cut for them to not be cuffed- word to the wise. These shoes are target! I have a thing for black flats and I wear them down quick. So buying smart is always really important because by the time I get attached they start to get holes and need to be replaced.
